First Eagle Scout of 2014

A Mother’s Day Wish

Let me tell you a tale of a scout on the trail
Of camping and cooking and hiking
The boats he can sail the canoes he can bail
The mountains and climbing and biking
At camp he will jump right into a lakeEric and flag
Then dives to the reefs in the deep
The fish he will catch and then go and bake
The bowlines he ties in his sleep
He’s got to be teaching the BSA says
The maps and tents and stoves with the gas
Not so fast with those matches and clean up those scratches
Were trying to make you First Class.
Now he’s made Life – the almost last rank
Merit badges he all did meet
And if that weren’t enough we have a small task
For Eagle you have to complete
Lest you forget all you’ve learned we’ll give you a job
That takes a small army to do it
Whether its building a shelter with about 50 helpers
We really don’t care just get through it
And now that it’s over, the project is done
The Eagle has landed at last.
The Board of Reviews , the merit badge fun
Are all a thing of the past.
For my Mother’s Day wish, I leave you with this
That your scouts all win the grand prize
Push them and make them and
Rush them and shake them
And finally the Eagle will rise.

Memorial Day Parade – Scouts Wanted!

Troop 491 plans to attend the Madison CT Memorial Day parade. We usually get there a half hour early and line up near Bank of America next to Stop and Shop.   All adults and scouts are invited to participate! Ed Guenther has indicated that he once again needs uniformed Eagle Scouts to help with the Flag ceremony etc. Since we have so many recent Eagle Scouts I am guessing we could help him with that??!! Let us know if you can attend!!

Bike Trip This Weekend!

On April 26th we will be biking on the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail (FCHT) which constitutes one of the most picturesque and historic greenways in New England. The Connecticut section from New Haven to Suffield runs fifty four miles through eleven towns and connects with many more biking and walking trails. We will overnight at Wah Wah Tay See scout camp where scouts can decide to pitch a tent or build a shelter from what they can find.
